Bob, I'm reading this today because it came out when I didn't have reading time, and what a TREAT!!! You're a poet, and you know it, and kids will laugh for an hour and a half! See? I'm inspired. And a reminder of Lynn's Paradise Cafe is a plus - our favorite place to go when we did art fairs in Louisville. Christopher has a cool dad. Happy Father's Day.
AHA!!! Well, I am STILL IMPRESSED because you're smart enough to have kept them all in organized accesibility. We keep promising ourselves to write the stories (now 2 generations worth) down that we want to remember and pass on, but.....we have not kept the promise. LOVE your 5 am Stories, one and all.
My parents dabbled in Catholicism when I was a youth and sometimes, my dad would say a "prayer" of his own creation like: Bless this dish, bless this fish, bless this woman I hope to kish...you get it. Of course this always made me laugh and as I grew up I grew into his sense of humor and began my own blessings at the table.
Pie in the Sky AND Icing on the Cake apply in this case, since Christopher was obviously given the gift of his father's creativity and has used it well in adulthood. What a pleasure to read this story! AND how on earth have you remembered EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE VERSES? I can't remember what room I meant to walk into 5 seconds ago! And Lynn's Paradise Cafe is definitely the best thing In Louisville beside Karen and her music and her living room with a skeleton.
I agree with Susan. I already knew the story and I own the CD, but it was even sweeter the second time around. What a gift it was to share an office with this knucklehead, I mean, talented journalist...
I loved this story and the fact that your poems started from love for your son. He is fortunate that you provided so many enriching experiences for him, both in your home and all over the world.
I remember playing the CD for Nina in our house by Lincoln Park. I remember it reaffirmed my belief that Bob Basler rose above most of the other Reuters crowd in talent and kindness. I can’t believe I’m finally hearing the backstory for Pie in the Sky! Thank you for this early Monday gift!

So glad you have superpowers: to make kids laugh and to craft wonderful words and poetry!

Thank you for reminding me.

Thank you for the sweet comments, Sandy. I didn't remember those poems, I have them all printed out - by the dozens. Also, I can just put on the CD!

Hey. Wait. That office sharing "gift" may feature in the next piece I post here....

Such a shame that Lynn’s is gone. That place was as wacko as she (and her decorations) were.
I am the proud owner of one of those CDs, which entertained a Generation Z-er back in the day....
Wow, I already knew the story, but it's even more charming the second time around!
Thank you, Susie. If you know anyone who is still in touch with Karen...
Funny! Charming! Where’s the illustrated children’s book??
It could still happen, Katie. I'm not dead yet...

I am on the edge of grandparenthood, so this should come in handy….
