Whatcha Havin', Gavin?

I don’t want 5 a.m. Stories to turn into a column about Indianapolis, although this is where I grew up and where I live now.
In-between growing up and growing old, I spent 40 years as a journalist and lived in New York City, Hong Kong and Washington DC. I reported news from Beirut to Beijing and had grand adventures in far-flung places.
Still, if an interesting story lands in my front yard, it’s hard to ignore it. Especially if it weighs 4,000 pounds and can probably be seen from the International Space Station.
Let me back up for just a minute.
Last August, stories began emerging about a planned sculpture to be erected here. It would be 32 feet tall, it would be dramatically illuminated by a rainbow array of LED lights, and judging from published images, it would scare the bejesus out of folks.
