William C. Westmoreland, a square-jawed, four-star general, was the stern face of America’s side in the Vietnam War.
During my U.S. Army Basic Training, I had to look at his photo in my locker every single morning, as, all bleary-eyed, I pulled on my fatigues and combat boots.
I didn’t know it then, but Westy would one day figure in the meanest trick anybody would ever play on me.
It’s Throwback Thursday, time for a rerun. I hope you enjoy The Face in my Army Locker.
