Today’s Throwback Thursday rerun, I’m Here For The War Next Door, tells about how carrying a photo of my sweetheart helped get me through customs to cover a war.
But enough about that. You may have noticed that I haven’t mentioned my 5 a.m. Stories demographic stats lately.
The Substack folks still send me these detailed maps, showing where my subscribers are. They live in 41 states, but are notably missing from a couple of contiguous chunks of property.
Look at the top map for yourself. A white blob of states in the northwest - Montana, the Dakotas, a rectangle that is probably Wyoming, and a state I believe may be Iowa. Nobody reads me in those places.
There is a smaller barren patch in the Deep South. Arkansas and some other state I don’t recognize.
Rounding out the map are two isolated states where 5 a.m. Stories are unknown - Vermont and Hawaii. I may need to go to Hawaii, on expenses, to see what they have against me.
But here’s the deal. The top map shows ALL subscribers, even the deadbeats with free subscriptions. By contrast, the map below shows the decent, hard-working Americans who pay a mere $5 a month to subscribe to read the good stuff. The darker-colored states have the most paid subscribers.
If you are planning a vacation, these are the places you should visit.
Tell them Bob sent you.
