(Droste Cocoa, as seen in Hot Chocolate in the 19th Century)
A week ago, I gave readers a glimpse into the five most popular posts over the three months since I launched my "5 a.m. Stories.”
Now for something completely different. Those same pageview statistics also show which postings didn’t attract what I would consider a suitable audience. Four of my favorites were scarcely noticed, probably because I published them early on, before my stories started to take off.
I suppose it’s also possible that people just read the headlines and thought they sounded too stupid so click on, so there is that.
Here is your chance to be the judge. In no particular order, here are four pieces that I am very proud of, and think they deserve a second chance. If it doesn’t work this time around, you may see them again. Hey, I’ve got all summer.
My very first post, introducing not only myself and my “5 a.m. Stories,” but also the Baroness - the ghost of the first occupant of the home she continues to haunt.
The romantic tale of the search for the perfect literary quote to engrave in our wedding rings. I don’t know. Too literary? Too romantic? I still like this one a lot.
Just possibly my favorite of all the stories I’ve posted so far. Maybe readers didn’t like sadness in a headline. It’s more nostalgic than sad, I promise.
Hot Chocolate in the 19th Century
Okay, a sweet story about having hot cocoa with our Albany landlady in an old mansion, and the beginning of a beautiful friendship. All I can say is, it’s not nearly as turgid as it sounds.
“5 a.m. Stories” will return with a brand-new piece next Monday, so set an alarm.Meanwhile, please feel free to leave a comment. Comments are good.
I well remember the Baroness story, so your efforts aren't in vain.
Well Bob- Hot Chocolate in the 19th Century is my top favorite! I seem to have many, but loved this one especially. I could picture everything so clearly just like I was there..... and the way she poured the Hot Choc! This is a great story!
