I was pretty proud of one of my early 5 a.m. Stories, called Songs and the Seeping Sadness. It was a very personal piece, about glimpsing sadness as a very young boy while singing old Americana songs.
“Nobody sang better about sadness and loss than Patsy Cline, so when she ended up being taken from us suddenly in a plane crash, the irony was not lost on me,” I wrote.
Imagine my shock when a reader emailed me: “Patsy Cline died in a car crash, not a plane crash. I’ve seen the spot where it happened.”
